Oude Geuze is a beer with its roots deep in history. In the past, this delicacy based on Lambic beer was brewed at hundreds of breweries large and small in and around Brussels. By the 1970s, many of these breweries and distilleries started to show their age. They mainly used artisanal methods, with primitive installations that required a huge amount of manual labour.
The very last Geuze distillery in Lembeek, run by René De Vits, was also about to close its doors, but fortunately, Frank Boon came to its rescue. He took over the distillery and invested in innovation, without losing sight of tradition. Since 1990, he has been brewing Lambiek Boon here, which serves as the basis for a delicious range of beers such as Geuze Mariage Parfait, Oude Geuze Boon, Oude Kriek Boon, Faro Boon. Brewery Boon also makes Duivels Bier, a rich, dark ale, and a true Halle speciality.
Family Brewery
Boon Brewery remains true to the family tradition, with sons Jos and Karel Boon also joining the brewery full-time. While eldest son Jos had been with us since 2012, youngest son Karel joined the company in 2017. The succession is assured!
A fourth feed warehouse will follow in 2018. Boon Brewery now has 161 oak casks, good for a total of 2.1 million liters of storage and maturation of lambic.
Frank Boon retired in 2020, and his sons took over the reins. Frank is still involved in his life's work, sharing his knowledge and expertise.
Toer de Geuze
Boon Brewery is also invariably a stop on the famous Toer de Geuze, which is organized every 2 years. The largest beer event in Flemish Brabant is an open brewery day in the Pajottenland and Zenne Valley. It is organized by the Hoge Raad voor Ambachtelijke Lambiekbieren (HORAL).
